Two people were killed in a head-on crash in west suburban Darien on New Year’s Day.

One vehicle was westbound and the other was eastbound in the 700 block of Plainfield Road when they crashed head-on at 10:25 a.m. Friday, according to a statement from Darien police.

Both drivers were extricated from their vehicles and taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where they were pronounced dead, police said.

The drivers were identified as Mary. A. Dziekan, 64, of Downers Grove; and 32-year-old Mark Maran Jr. of Darien, according to police.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.
