A fire in an apartment building in north suburban Skokie killed three cats and injured one dog on Monday.
Around 11:53 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a four-flat apartment building in the 9100 block of Kilpatrick Avenue, Skokie Deputy Fire Chief Kenneth Borre said. The fire was contained to one apartment on the first floor and was extinguished shortly after crews arrived.
No one was home at the time of the fire, but three cats were killed and a dog was injured – most likely from smoke inhalation, Borre said. The dog was taken to an animal hospital, where its condition was stabilized.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
