A 71-year-old North Side man found outside in the Loop last week died Saturday, marking Cook County’s 14th cold-related death this winter.

Charlie Hogan was discovered in the 500 block of South Wabash Feb. 14 and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:59 p.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 7200 block of North Sheridan.

An autopsy Sunday found Hogan died of complications due to cold exposure, with heart and lung disease contributing.

Chicago Police could not immediately provide more details on the circumstances of how the man was found.

The city’s low temperature was 12 degrees on Feb. 14, according to the National Weather Service.

At least 13 other people have died of cold-related causes in Cook County since Nov. 3, most recently last week in Des Plaines, authorities said.

Last winter, 26 people died at least partly from cold exposure in Cook County, according to the medical examiner’s office. During the 2013-14 winter season, there were 32 confirmed cold-related deaths.
