A 63-year-old man suffering from dementia who was reported missing from northwest Indiana was found shot to death Monday evening.

James Thompson was found dead at 6:45 p.m. in a wooded area near 1700 Williams St., according to Gary police and the Lake County coroner’s office.

Thompson wandered off from the 1500 block of Porter Street in Gary about 6 a.m. Sunday, according to Gary police.
