(NORTHBROOK) A man was struck and killed by a freight train Saturday morning in north suburban Northbrook, authorities said.

Michael Waldron, 28, of the 0-100 block of Buttonwood Lane in Northbrook, was hit by a freight train near Metra tracks, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A family member said it was not known exactly where or what time the incident took place, but Waldron’s body was found about 5 a.m. by a Metra conductor near the 2700 block of Shermer Road.

An autopsy Sunday found he died of multiple injuries as a result of the accident and that he had traces of alcohol in his system. His death was ruled an accident.

A Metra spokesman said two trains were delayed after the incident.
