A person was hospitalized with serious injuries Sunday after a fire in Fernwood on the South Side.

About 12:50 p.m., fire crews were called to a blaze in a home in the 200 block of West 104th place, the Chicago Fire Department said. The fire was quickly brought under control, fire officials said, but not before an adult jumped from the second floor in escape.

That person was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in serious-to-critical condition, the fire department said.
