A driver was killed in a crash Feb. 12, 2020, on Interstate 94 in Michigan City, Indiana.

A driver was killed in a crash Wednesday on Interstate 94 in Michigan City, Indiana. 

The driver was in a black Chevrolet Blazer about 1:50 p.m. on I-94 near mile marker 37 when the SUV slammed into the back of a 1999 Kenworth semi that was disabled on the right shoulder, according to preliminary information from Indiana State Police. 

The LaPorte County coroner’s office identified the driver as Steven A. Kowalkoski of Champaign.

It wasn’t clear why he veered off the road, but the semi was parked “well off the roadway” at the time of the collision, police said. 

Indiana State Police and the LaPorte County coroner’s office are investigating.
