A 25-year-old man was shot Monday night in the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side.

About 10:25 p.m., he was walking in an alley in the 5300 block of South Indiana when he heard shots and felt pain, according to Chicago Police.

The man was taken with a gunshot wound to the leg to Stroger Hospital, police said. He was in good condition.

Shermain Sargent, 41, is accused of beating Timothy Ash, 74, on Jan. 7 in the 6400 block of South King Drive. Ash died Jan. 12 of injuries suffered from the assault, the medical examiner reported.
