5 injured in Volo crash

Five people were injured when a car crashed into a minivan Saturday afternoon in northwest suburban Volo, including one person who had to be airlifted to a hospital.

The collision happened about 4 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Route 12 near Russell Drive, according to the Wauconda Fire District.

It took 45 minutes for crews to extricate the car driver. A helicopter was called in to take that person — who was conscious throughout the extrication — to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, fire officials said.

The driver of the minivan was also taken to Condell, and three passengers were taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, according to fire officials, who did not release their conditions.

The Lake County sheriff’s office is investigating the crash. A spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment.
