Eight people are facing misdemeanor charges after a five-hour standoff with police Monday morning at a Rogers Park apartment building.

Eight people — six men and two women — are each facing one misdemeanor count of criminal trespass to residence and one misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property, police said.

The situation started when one of the males barricaded himself inside a unit in an 80-unit apartment building in the 1600 block of West Sherwin about 2:40 a.m. and a SWAT team reported to the scene, police said.

Eight suspects were taken into custody about 7:50 a.m. police said. No shots were fired and no one was hurt.

The building’s fourth floor was evacuated and about 20 people waited in a warming bus outside before the situation was resolved.

All eight charged are scheduled to appear in court Feb. 24.
