An 82-year-old man died after he was involved in a crash Monday afternoon in northwest Indiana.

Richard E. Ray was driving south on Calumet Avenue in Dyer when he ran a traffic signal and crashed into a vehicle heading west on 213th Street at 1:44 p.m., according to Dyer police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Ray, of the 2900 block of 192nd Street in Lansing, was initially taken to Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Dyer, authorities said.

He was airlifted to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 1:53 p.m. Tuesday, according to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy Wednesday found he died of multiple injuries from a motor vehicle collision, and his death was ruled an accident.

The other driver was injured, but refused medical attention at the scene, police said.
