A semi driver suffered a fatal heart attack before his truck crashed Friday afternoon on the Chicago Skyway, an autopsy has found.
About 12:30 p.m. Friday, the semi was traveling in the outbound lanes of the Skyway near 95th Street when it crossed the center lane and hit another vehicle, according to Chicago Police.
The truck’s driver, identified as 45-year-old Thomas E. McCoy, was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:22 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
He was from the 400 block of Concord Street in Crown Point, Ind., authorities said.
An autopsy Saturday found that he died of a heart attack before the crash. His death was ruled natural.
