A woman struck by a Metra train Friday morning on the North Side committed suicide, authorities said.

Inbound train No. 320 on the Union Pacific North Line struck the 42-year-old woman about 8:15 a.m. in the 3200 block of North Ravenswood, according to Metra and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy Saturday ruled her death a suicide.

All trains were halted in both directions after the incident, causing extensive delays throughout the Friday morning commute, Metra said.
