The driver of a Ford Taurus lost control of his car and crossed three lanes of I-55 before crashing into a tree in Plainfield on Wednesday.

At 11:25 p.m., Dominic Baglieri, 22, was driving a Ford Taurus northbound in the left lane of I-55 just south of Route 126, according to preliminary information from Illinois State Police. The car struck a concrete barrier which caused Baglieri to lose control. The car crossed three lanes of traffic before driving off the east side of the roadway into a tree and catching fire.

Before troopers arrived, two people stopped and pulled Baglieri and a his passenger out of the car before it was fully engulfed in flames, ISP said. Baglieri, of Elmwood Park, and the passenger, a 26-year-old Chicago man, were transported to a nearby hospital with injuries.

Baglieri was charged with improper lane usage, according to ISP. The Illinois State Police District 5 are investigating the crash.
