A week after endorsing Amara Enyia for mayor, Chance the Rapper is joining her at a rally this afternoon on the South Side.

Enyia and Chance will host the event from 2-3 p.m. at 63rd Street and Cottage Grove Avenue in Woodlawn.

The pair will discuss “concerns around gentrification and displacement” in the neighborhood, according to a Facebook event created for the rally.

Last week, Chance said he would “probably never” run for mayor before he endorsed Enyia, who rose from longshot status to one of the most talked-about candidates in the crowded field. A Garfield Park resident, she is the director of the Austin Chamber of Commerce.

Enyia, 35, said Chance isn’t only endorsing her, he’s lending ideas to her campaign such as a plan to bolster mental health services decimated by clinic closings and state funding cuts and bring “equity” to student funding in the Chicago Public Schools.

Enyia again made headlines on Monday when rapper Kanye West donated $73,540 to her campaign, a move that some political strategists said legitimized Enyia’s run. Enyia said she has already used the contribution to settle a debt of the same amount to the Illinois State Board of Elections stemming from filing fees and penalties never paid. She was also a candidate in the last mayoral race but dropped out before the February 2015 vote.

West’s donation came just 11 days after his face-to-face talk with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office made national headlines.
