A west suburban man was shot to death in the West Garfield Park neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

Two other people walked up to the 22-year-old on a sidewalk about 4:15 p.m. near West End and Keystone avenues and at least one of them opened fire, striking him in the chest and abdomen, police said.

Kendrick Thorton was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 1000 block of 24th Avenue in Bellwood.

An autopsy Monday found he died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Police said the shooting was thought to be gang-related.
