(CAIRO) An elderly south suburban man died early Wednesday after he was injured in a crash in downstate Cairo.
David Thomas, 83, of Calumet Park was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after he was injured in a crash on I-57 near mile marker 12 in Cairo, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Thomas, of the 12000 block of South Ashland Avenue, was pronounced dead at 1:26 a.m. Wednesday, the medical examiner’s office said.
An autopsy Thursday found he died of multiple injuries suffered in the crash and his death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner’s office said.
Illinois State Police could not immediately provide details on the crash.
