An elderly northwest suburban woman died after complaining of chest pains following a three-vehicle accident Thursday morning in north suburban Park Ridge.
The accident happened about 9:55 a.m. at the intersection of Dee and Talcott roads, just north of Maine South High School in Park Ridge, according to a statement from Park Ridge police.
An 81-year-old woman was driving southbound on Talcott and trying to turn left at a traffic signal, police said. A northbound vehicle driven by a 43-year-old Chicago woman then struck the other vehicle while going through a green light at the intersection, police said.
The northbound vehicle also struck another vehicle, driven by a 47-year-old Skokie resident, who was stopped for a red light. The 81-year-old woman’s car came to rest on the northeast corner of the intersection.
The driver, identified as Jean Nelson, then “became unresponsive at the accident scene, after complaining of chest pains,” according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Nelson, who lived in the 2300 block of Scott Street in Des Plaines, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she was pronounced dead at 10:49 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
No other significant injuries were reported, police said.
The police Major Crash Unit is investigating.
