Elgin man faces gun charge after January police chase

An Elgin man was arrested on a gun charge Thursday after his fingerprints were identified on a gun found after a police chase last month in the northwest suburb.

Officers tried to pull over a vehicle at 2:23 a.m. Jan. 17, according to a statement from Elgin police. The vehicle did not stop and eventually hit a car and the front porch of a house in the 400 block of Arlington Avenue in Elgin.

The driver got out of the vehicle and ran away, police said. Officers were unable to locate him, but they found a handgun inside the vehicle. The Illinois State Police Crime Lab found a fingerprint on the gun that matched 19-year-old Oshay Montgomery.

Montgomery, of the 400 block of Hickory Street in Elgin, was arrested Thursday and charged with possession of a firearm without an FOID card, a Class 3 felony, according to police. He is being held at the Kane County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
