A dead body was recovered from Lake Michigan Sunday morning near Hyde Park on the South Side, authorities said.

About 10 a.m., crews responded to a call of a person in the water between 54th and 59th streets and found a man’s body about half an hour later, according to Chicago police and fire officials.

The body was thought to have been in the water for an extended period of time and was unidentified Sunday afternoon, authorities said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately provide more details.

Area Central detectives have launched a death investigation.
