Firefighter hurt in Far South Side blaze

A firefighter was injured battling a fire early Tuesday in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side.

Crews were called to the fire at a single-family home in the 12200 block of South Sangamon at 2:34 a.m., according to Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Walter Schroeder.

The first company arrived at the scene by 2:37 a.m., and the fire was extinguished by 3:02 a.m., Schroeder said.

A firefighter suffered a minor shoulder injury and was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park in good condition, Schroeder said.

The building was rendered uninhabitable in the fire, according to Schroeder. The American Red Cross was helping the residents find shelter.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Tuesday morning.
