Infant girl killed, 6 others hurt in Barrington Hills crash

A 5-month-old girl was killed in a crash that left six other people injured Thursday evening in northwest suburban Barrington Hills.

Shortly before 7 p.m., a 2010 Dodge Journey and a 2001 Ford pickup collided at the intersection of Elgin Road and Silverstone Drive in Barrington Hills, according to a statement from Barrington Hills police. That led to a second crash involving a 2002 Nissan, a 2000 GMC pickup and a 1993 Chevrolet pickup.

A 5-month-old girl, who was a passenger in the Dodge, was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where she was later pronounced dead, police said. Two other children, passengers in the Dodge ages 8 and 13, were taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates in serious condition.

The 32-year-old woman driving the Dodge was also taken to Sherman Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The 23-year-old man driving the Ford was taken to Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released, according to police. The 24-year-old man driving the Nissan and the male driver of the Chevrolet were also taken to hospitals and later released.

The crash remains under investigation by Barrington Hills police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, police said. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call police at (847) 551-3006.
