A Kentucky woman was killed and three teenagers were injured in a crash Wednesday morning in northwest Indiana.

A 37-year-old woman was driving a 2015 Jeep Cherokee north at 11:18 a.m. on McCool Road in Portage Township when an eastbound 2008 Chrysler Town and Country on County Road 875 North “failed to yield the right of way and pulled out in front of” the Jeep, according to a statement from the Porter County sheriff’s office. The Jeep then hit the passenger side of the Chrysler.

The front-seat passenger in the Chrysler, 56-year-old Lisa Barnes, was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said. She lived in Kentucky.

A 14-year-old boy from the back seat of the Chrysler was taken to Methodist Northlake Hospital in Gary with serious injuries before being airlifted to Comer Children’s Hospital, according to the sheriff’s office. Two girls from the back seat of the Chrysler, ages 17 and 14, were taken to Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso with minor injuries.

The driver of the Jeep and the 17-year-old girl driving the Chrysler were not injured, the sheriff’s office said. All of the occupants of the Chrysler are from Kentucky.
