A man was fatally wounded in a shooting Monday afternoon in the same East Garfield Park neighborhood block where another man was run down by an SUV about 13 hours earlier, police said.

Reginald J. Crawford, 30, heard gunfire and realized he had been shot in the chest at 4:37 p.m. in the 3200 block of West Walnut. He taken to Stroger Hospital by paramedics, where he was pronounced dead at 5:15 p.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police tape blocked off the area as detectives conducted a homicide investigation. The new tape covered older tape put up to corral the scene of the earlier hit-and-run crash.

In that incident, a 23-year-old man suffered injuries to his right leg when someone drove a dark-colored Jeep onto the sidewalk and struck him, police said. The Jeep also struck a fence and the front porch of a home before driving off.

The man who was struck was taken to Mount Sinai, where his condition had stabilized, police said. The case also remained under investigation Monday evening.
