A 27-year-old man has been charged with fatally stabbing of his father Tuesday afternoon in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

Jimall Murphy is charged with a felony count of first-degree murder, Chicago Police said Wednesday.

Officers responded about 2:15 p.m. to calls of a stabbing in an alleyway in the 4800 block of West Superior and found 53-year-old Dennis Murphy unresponsive with multiple stab wounds, police and Cook County prosecutors said.

Witnesses said they saw Jimall Murphy repeatedly stab his father with a butcher-style knife while they begged him to stop, prosecutors said. He was taken into custody near the scene and was filmed admitting to stabbing his father by a police body camera. He later made additional videotaped admissions to detectives while in custody.

Dennis Murphy suffered stab wounds to the head and chest and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Both men lived in the same block, authorities said.

Murphy was denied bail at a court appearance Thursday, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. He was scheduled to return to court Dec. 12.
