One man was killed and two other people were hurt in a fire at a senior living center Thursday evening, police and fire officials said.
Fire department crews were called to the 700 block of East 69th Street at 7:40 p.m. and found a fire contained to a single unit, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Juan Hernandez said.
Leroy Griffin, 51, died at his home in the same block, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
The man was restricted to a wheel chair, 5th District Fire Deputy Chief Jeffrey Horan told reporters at the scene.
A 74-year-old woman was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition, while a third person was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital, also in good condition, police and fire officials said.
The building houses an assisted living facility for seniors, Hernandez said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
