A man was seriously wounded early Sunday when he was shot in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood.

The 36-year-old was walking on a sidewalk at 2:23 a.m. when someone walked up to him in the 5500 block of South State and fired shots, according to Chicago Police.

He showed up at Provident Hospital and was later transferred to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, police said. He was being treated for a gunshot wound to the chest.

No on was in custody. Area Central detectives were investigating.
