A man was shot and seriously wounded Tuesday night in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

The 19-year-old was shot in the leg at 7:43 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Justine, according to Chicago Police.

The shooting occurred when the man was approached by an unknown offender who had a handgun and announced a robbery, police said.

The offender shot the man in the upper right thigh before running south on Justine. It was unknown whether anything was stolen, police said.

The man was taken in serious condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.

No one was in custody as Area South detectives investigated the shooting.
