Man shot in Woodlawn

A man was shot late Saturday in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.

About 11:20 p.m., the 22-year-old was walking on the sidewalk in the 6500 block of South Vernon when another male walked up and opened fire, according to Chicago Police.

The man was shot in the right side of his chest and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

A police source said he is a documented gang member.
