A man was killed Saturday afternoon in an Englewood neighborhood shooting on the South Side.

Cornell Verner, 24, was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle about 4:20 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Carpenter when someone walked up and fired shots, striking him multiple times in the face and torso, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The shooter then ran away.

Verner was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:32 p.m., authorities said. His home address was not known.
