A man was struck by a train and had his leg severed Thursday night on the South Side.
About 8 p.m., the 21-year-old man was trespassing on railroad property in the 4900 block of South Shields when one of the trains began to move, severing his leg at the ankle, according to Chicago Police. A Norfolk Southern rail yard is located nearby, at 361 W. 47th St.
He was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.
