A 39-year-old woman who was fatally struck by an Amtrak train last week in north suburban Northbrook committed suicide.
The Hiawatha train No. 337, en route to Milwaukee from Chicago, struck Janet Guavita shortly about 3:45 p.m. Thursday near 1401 Shermer Road in Northbrook, according to Amtrak and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. She was dead at the scene.
An autopsy found Guavita, of the 100 block of Longaker Drive in Northbrook, committed suicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.
None of the train’s crew members or 87 passengers were injured, Amtrak spokeswoman Christina Leeds said. The train was on the move again by 5:40 p.m.
The collision also halted Milwaukee District North Metra trains for about an hour.
