An Amtrak employee was shot Tuesday afternoon at a station in west suburban Naperville that Amtrak shares with Metra.

The 45-year-old Amtrak conductor was shot about 4:45 p.m. at the Naperville train station at 105 4th Ave., according to Naperville police. He had been shot in the torso and was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville, where he was conscious and alert.

A Wisconsin man in his 70s was taken into custody as a suspect in the shooting and a handgun was recovered, police said. He was being restrained by other passengers on the train when police found him.

Metra BNSF trains were back on the move after being slowed for the incident. Trains were running up to 60 minutes behind schedule because of police activity after the incident, according to a Metra spokesman.
