A 52-year-old north suburban man was killed in a downstate crash on Saturday afternoon.

Three vehicles were slowed in traffic in the northbound lanes of I-57 near milepost 283 in Iroquois County about 4:45 p.m., when the driver of a black Chevrolet became distracted and rear-ended a tan Toyota. The Toyota struck a red Dodge, which then struck a black Dodge, according to Illinois State Police.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as 52-year-old Shuwei Chen of Morton Grove, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The drivers of the other three vehicles were taken to hospitals with minor injuries.

State police are investigating the crash.
