A woman and her 8-year-old daughter were wounded in a shooting Tuesday in northwest Indiana.

Officers were called about shots fired at 1:55 a.m. in the 1400 block of East 35th Place in Gary, Indiana, according to a statement from Gary police. When they arrived, a male at a home in that block flagged them down and said two people had been shot.

The woman, 28-year-old Pamela Hunter, was dead at the scene, police and the Lake County Coroner’s Office said. She lived in Gary.

Her daughter was taken to a hospital to be treated for an injury that was not thought to be life-threatening, according to police.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call Det. Corporal James Bond of the Lake County/Gary Metro Homicide Unit at (219) 755-3855 or the Crime Tip Line at (866) CRIME-GP.
