A bicyclist who died after being struck by a stolen SUV that drove away from the crash Thursday night in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood has been identified.

The bicyclist, 46-year-old Angelo L. Resto, was struck from behind about 5:30 p.m. by a dark purple 2009 Saturn Outlook headed east in 3800 block of West Augusta Boulevard, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Police said the SUV struck the man after pulling away from a stop sign at Augusta Boulevard and Avers Street.

Resto, a Romeoville resident, was run over and the driver of the Saturn continued east on Augusta without stopping, authorities said. Resto was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m.

The Saturn, which was reported stolen on Dec. 13, was later found unoccupied in an alley in the 800 block of North Avers, police said. The SUV has an Illinois plate of Z970984 and a vehicle identification number of 5GZEV23D49J130063.

Anyone with information about the crash or the driver should call the CPD Major Investigation Unit at (312) 745-4521.
