A man was shot in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side Saturday afternoon.

About 1:15 p.m., the 46-year-old was outside in the 4800 block of West Congress when he was shot in the thumb, Chicago Police said. He was taken to Loretto Hospital in good condition.

Previously, the man was thought to have shot himself while he was taking out his garbage, police said. However, as of Saturday night, the shooting was no longer being investigated as self-inflicted.

A police source said the man was a documented gang member who was under house arrest at the time of the incident.
