A 20-year-old man was killed in a single-car crash Thursday night in north suburban Waukegan, according to police.

David C. Collins, of the 1200 block of Jackson Street in North Chicago, was driving south on Westmoreland Avenue when he lost control of his 2006 Chevrolet Impala and struck a utility pole at Crescent Avenue, according to Waukegan police. He was not wearing his seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Collins was the only occupant of the vehicle, police said.

Speed was believed to be a factor in the crash, though an investigation is ongoing, police said. Results of toxicology tests are expected next week.

The Lake County coroner’s office could not immediately be reached for comment.
