A pedestrian died after a hit-and-run crash in the Avondale neighborhood on the Northwest Side early Sunday, police said.

The 34-year-old man was struck by a vehicle about 5:20 a.m. at North Milwaukee and West Belmont avenues, according to Fire Media Affairs Chief Juan Hernandez, adding that the man “may have flown about 30-feet from where he got hit.”

He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, Chicago Police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the hit-and-run crash.
