Police respond to false alarm at Hoffman Estates hospital

Police responded to a false alarm indicating an active shooter situation Thursday morning at a hospital in northwest suburban Hoffman Estates.

At 9:29 a.m., an automated alarm indicating an active shooter went off at Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital at 1650 Moon Rd., according to Hoffman Estates police.

The alarm tripped during a construction project, Alexian spokesman Matt Wakely said. All patients were evacuated and taken to a secure location.

Officers responded quickly and learned it was an accidental alarm activation, police said. No one was hurt.

Hoffman Estates High School was temporarily put on soft lockdown as a precaution, according to a statement on the school’s website.
