A woman has been charged with DUI for crashing a car into a school bus with 19 children onboard Tuesday afternoon on Route 1 in Kankakee County.

About 3:40 p.m., a Mercury was headed south in the 5400 block of South Illinois Route 1 in St. Anne, according to a statement from Illinois State Police.

The Mercury crossed over into the lane of traffic headed north and struck the bus, state police said. The driver of the Mercury, 27-year-old Briana Bobrokowski, was taken to a local hospital with injuries.

The driver of the bus and the children on board were not injured, police said. All of the children were relocated to St. Anne Elementary School and released to their parents.

Bobrokowski, who lives in St. Anne, was later charged with reckless conduct and driving under the influence of drugs, state police said. She was also cited for driving an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane usage, illegal cellphone usage while driving, driving in the wrong lane, failure to signal and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
