WASHINGTON – Sen. Mark Kirk R-Ill. fundraising is getting a boost Sunday and Monday from Sen. John Cornyn R-Texas and Sen. Shelley Moore Capito R-W. Va. who are headlining events for him in Chicago and Winnetka.
On Sunday, Capito was at the Winnetka home of GOP donors Jo and Ken Merlau for a brunch targeting female contributors with some of the highest profile Republican elected women in Illinois on the host committee.
Among those on the “Women for Kirk” funder host committee according to an invitation, were Illinois Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti; Illinois Comptroller Leslie Munger; former Rep. Judy Biggert R-Ill.; former Illinois Lt. Gov. Corinne Wood and state Sen. Karen McConnaughay, R- St. Charles.
On Monday, Cornyn hits the Chicago Club, 81 E. Van Buren St., for a luncheon to bolster Kirk’s run for a second term. The hosts are blue chip members of the Illinois business community and major GOP donors: Craig Duchossois; Ron Gidwitz; Barry MacLean and Miles White.
According to the invitations for both the Moore and Coryn events, the proceeds will go primarily to the Kirk for Senate fund, with parts of bigger donations then allocated to the Lincoln PAC, Kirk’s political action committee and the Illinois Republican Party.
The tab for the Sunday brunch ran from $250 for an individual to $2,700 to co-chair. Tickets for the Monday lunch run from $1,000 for one person to $5,400 to be listed as a host.
Kirk faces nominal GOP opposition in the March Republican Senate primary.
