The book on Daley . . .
A top Sneed source claims a minion for former Mayor Rich Daley, who is feeling mighty fine these days, is making inquiries about hiring a ghostwriter to author a book on running an American city.
“Yes, it’s true. The mayor is interested in writing a book,” a Daley source said.
• Hmmm. Sneed also is told that Daley’s social life is active. A widower, Daley was spotted at the recent funeral of legendary Little Italy advocate/mayoral confidant Oscar D’Angelo accompanied by Dana Buffone, widow of the late Chicago Bear linebacker, Doug Buffone, who died last year.
The police purge . . .
. . . continues: So here’s the drill:
Sneed is told Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson and Mayor Rahm Emanuel are freaking out.
And it’s not just because the Chicago Police Department is attempting to fire seven police officers allegedly involved in a cover-up of the Laquan McDonald shooting.
It’s because CPD’s legal advisers and city Inspector General Joe Ferguson, who issued a blistering private report on the police cover-up in the McDonald case — insisted there was also no way to save certain exempt rank, top-brass honchos from being forced to retire, resign or face serious discipline.
Sneed is told Johnson had been hoping to save members of his team and talked to several of them a week ago.
The next day, when legal advisers got involved, Sneed hears things changed.
Deputy Chief David McNaughton retired Monday; he was forced out. Almost simultaneously, First Deputy Police Supt. John Escalante, who had been in job negotiations with Northeastern Illinois University for months while under pressure from Emanuel to stay on, abruptly retired.
On Thursday, highly respected Chief of Detectives Eugene Roy resigned, facing age-related retirement, according to a police spokesman.
Is a fourth gumshoe about to drop?
Ivanka tell ya . . .
Ivanka Trump, daughter of Donald Trump, just got slammed by an Instagram.
• Translation: Ivanka, who had been on vacation in Croatia, got an unexpected message from the two female owners of the Lady Grey Jewelry company after ordering an $84 gold Helix Ear Cuff recently.
• The note — captioned “Dear @ivankatrump, #thanksbutnothanks #payitFORWARD” — read: ‘Dear Ivanka, Thank you so much for your web order!’ We’re happy to let you know that the proceeds of your sale have been generously donated to the Hillary Clinton campaign.”
They also noted donations to the American Immigration Council and the Everytown for Gun Safety organization.
Hoop scoop . . .
Sneed is now told President Barack Obama, who seems to have abandoned court time with his basketball buddies for tee time while on vacation in Martha’s Vineyard, is opting not to chance getting hurt shooting hoops during his last months in office.
• Bank shot: Obama, who has been criticized for not heading to flood-ravaged Louisiana while on vacation, opted for tee-hee time Thursday with big bucks bankers and comedian Larry “Seinfeld/Curb Your Enthusiasm” David, who famously impersonated Clinton’s Dem opponent Bernie Sanders on “Saturday Night Live.”
Sneedlings . . .
I spy: Chicago Cubs defensive star Javy Baez spotted at RPM Steak on Saturday night. . . . Today’s birthdays: John Stamos, 53; Bill Clinton, 70, and Matthew Perry, 47.Tweets by @sneedlings
