The wife of a construction worker claimed Thursday that an unsecured balcony railing caused her husband to fall to his death last year in west suburban Bellwood.
The worker’s wife, Angela Liszkiewicz, filed the lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court on behalf of her husband, 50-year-old Scott Liszkiewicz.
Scott Liszkiewicz died on Dec. 10 at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood from complications of a fall, according to records from the Cook County medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled an accident.
The lawsuit claims that three weeks before that, on Nov. 18, Scott Liszkiewicz was working on a project at Prairie View Apartments at 3500 Georgina Ln. in Bellwood.
Someone working on the outside of the building detached a railing on the second-floor balcony, and it gave way, causing Scott Liszkiewicz to fall two stories, the suit claims.
The suit holds CRG Residential, R C Construction and Stoney Creek Construction responsible for failing to remove the unsecured railing.
None of the companies could be reached for comment Thursday evening.
Angela Liszkiewicz is asking for an unspecified amount of damages in the six-count wrongful death suit.
