Before you reach for those spicy tuna rolls, take a quick look at the label. A fish company is recalling certain yellow fin tuna used in sushi due to salmonella contamination.
The tainted fish, which is distributed through AFC Corporation of Rancho Dominquez, Calif., was discovered at a Minnesota store, according to a release from the FDA. AFC sells sushi in grocery stores and stand-alone sushi counters. Two people in Minnesota became ill from eating the contaminated sushi.
Salmonella bacteria can cause diarrhea, abdominal pain and vomiting, though it can be much more serious for infants, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, the FDA reports.
AFC Sushi labels used to seal rectangular plastic trays with clear lids look like this:
The tainted sushi includes Frozen Tuna Yellow Fin Chunk Meat (Lot #68568). If you think you have purchased tainted sushi, you can return it to the store where you bought it for a full refund, according to the FDA. You can also contact the company at 1-310-849-8881, Mondays through Fridays, 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. (PDT).
