Two Rockford-area men suffered critical injuries when their vehicles collided Saturday afternoon near northwest suburban Woodstock.
Roberto Rivas, of Garden Prairie; and Elijah Drake, of Belvidere, remain in critical condition Monday after the crash just after 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the 17200 block of Kishwaukee Valley Road in unincorporated Woodstock, according to a statement from the McHenry County sheriff’s office.
Police said Drake’s 2006 Volkswagen Passat was eastbound on Kishwaukee Valley at 2:36 p.m. when it veered into the westbound lane and struck a 2011 Toyota Scion.
The Volkswagen rolled over into a ditch on the north side of the road and came to a stop upside down, police said. The Toyota spun out and came to a stop in the westbound lane.
Rivas, 59, and Drake, 18, were taken by Woodstock Fire/Rescue to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock. Drake was later transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Both men were wearing seat belts and their airbags deployed upon impact, police said. There were no passengers in the cars.
