Two women were injured — one critically — in a crash Sunday afternoon in northwest suburban Elgin.
A vehicle was heading eastbound on West Bartlett Road when the driver tried to turn northbound at Schoen Drive and struck an oncoming vehicle at 1:56 p.m., according to a statement from Elgin police.
The driver of the westbound vehicle, a 68-year-old Bartlett woman, was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin for injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening, police said.
A 65-year-old woman who was a passenger in the same vehicle was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin for serious injuries, where she remains in critical condition, police said.
The driver of the initial vehicle was not hurt in the crash.
Several streets near the crash were closed during the investigation for about three hours.
Elgin police are investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call (847) 289-2660.
