A 25-year-old man was wounded in a shooting Thursday evening in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

About 6:10 p.m., the man was walking on a sidewalk in the 4400 block of West Jackson Boulevard when he heard gunfire and realized he was shot, Chicago police said.

He took himself to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to his lower body, according to police. His condition had stabilized.
