Man wounded in I-290 shooting early Thursday on Near West Side

A man was wounded in a shooting early Thursday on the Eisenhower Expressway on the Near West Side.

The 21-year-old man, from west suburban Cicero, was a front-seat passenger in a vehicle heading west on Interstate 290 near Ashland at 4:03 a.m. when a dark-colored vehicle pulled alongside and someone inside fired multiple shots, according to Illinois State Police.

The passenger was struck by gunfire and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening and his condition had stabilized.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured, police said.

Westbound lanes were closed between Ashland and Racine for an investigation, but were reopened about 5:50 a.m., police said.
