A woman was injur4ed when she jumped from a second-floor window during a house fire Tuesday morning in the South Side Bridgeport neighborhood.

Crews responded to a fire at a single-family home in the 1300 block of West 32nd Street at 7:45 a.m., Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.

A young woman jumped out of a second-floor window to escape the smoke, and hurt her leg and ankle, Langford said. She was taken to a hospital, where her condition stabilized.

A man between 40 and 50 also threatened to jump, but firefighters were able to get him down with a ladder, Langford said. He declined medical attention.

The blaze originated in a bag of garbage set just outside a door.

It caused a “considerable amount of smoke,” but no major damage to the home, Langford said.
